What is an "allergy"?
Allergy is a compound word derived from the Greek words "allos" and "ergon", when combined means "other work", or excessive reaction. People and pets that have allergies have an increased risk of reacting to things such as allergens. An "allergen" is any substance, generally eaten or inhaled, that is recognized by our bodies immune system as an invader which triggers an allergic reaction. Another word that is sometimes used for allergy is hypersensitivity. The antibodies than cause mast cells to release a chemical known as histamine. Excess histamine results in allergy symptoms, the antihistamine products you can get from your local drug store works by blocking excess histamine providing allergy relief.
Many of our customers with allergies report noticeable relief after installing LifeTime electrostatic air filters in their home.
What is an "allergen"?
The offending substances are called allergens, or "triggers". An allergen is anything that can produce an allergic reaction in people or pets. Allergens stimulate our bodies to produce antibodies to counteract the invaders. Dust, dust mites, pollen, spores, tobacco smoke, human dander and pet dander are all common household allergens, it is also possible to be allergic to pretty much anything we breath into our lungs. A complete list of allergens is simply not possible because sensitivities vary from one person to another so it is possible to be allergic to just about anything. People have experienced allergies many years after constant exposure to a particular allergen. Cigarette smoke allergy for example, one lady reports on a recent health forum of being diagnosed with cigarette smoke allergy years after constant exposure while growing up with both parents smoking in the home.
The LifeTime filters out most common household airborne allergens from our indoor air.
What is "asthma"?
Asthma is an allergic reaction to the airborne allergens we breath into in the our lungs. Our airways or bronchial tubes are sensitive to such irritants as dust, dust mites, pet dander, pollen, spores, cigarette smoke and perfumes to name a few. The lungs of asthmatics often have a lot of thick and sticky mucus in the bronchial tubes. Doctors sometimes diagnose asthma patients as bronchitis meaning inflammation of the bronchial tubes.
Filtering the allergens from the air in your home with LifeTime electrostatic air filters can bring significant relief to asthma patients.
What is "allergic rhinitis"?
Allergic Rhinitis is an allergic reaction in the linings of the nose and sinuses. Medical terms are generally interpreted backwards so "itis" meaning inflammation or swelling, "rhino" meaning nose, and allergic meaning hyper-reactivity. Therefore "Allergic Rhinitis" means inflammation and swelling in the nose and sinus due to an allergy. Allergic Rhinitis is often referred to as "hay fever" even though there isn't any fever involved, go figure...
LifeTime electrostatic air filters relieve allergic rhinitis symptoms by removing the offending allergens
What is human & pet dander:
Human and pet or animal dander is the dry skin that flakes off of people and pets continually into the air we breath. The dander is released into the air as we and our pets move about, groom, play, scratch etcetera. It is the protein in all of this pet and human dander that cause allergic reactions in sensitive people, with cat dander being the worst offender producing especially potent allergens.
